President Samia Suluhu Hassan has launched flyover construction projects in Dodoma valued at Sh400 billion (approximately $154 million), marking a significant step in the modernisation of Tanzania's administrative capital.

The flyover projects target key intersections in the rapidly expanding city, where traffic congestion has intensified as government operations and population growth accelerate. The infrastructure is expected to reduce travel times, improve road safety, and support economic activity in a city that has seen sustained public and private investment since the full transfer of government functions from Dar es Salaam.

President Samia described the projects as part of the government's broader commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic transformation. Dodoma's rapid growth requires transport infrastructure capable of supporting a modern capital city, she said.

The Sh400 billion commitment adds to a series of major infrastructure investments in Dodoma in recent years, including road upgrades, a new airport terminal, government buildings, and commercial developments. The flyover projects are being implemented alongside other national transport initiatives, including highways, bridges, railways, and airports.

The launch comes during a period of heightened infrastructure spending across Tanzania, with the AfDB recently approving $500 million for road projects in the Dodoma-Babati and Arusha corridors. Together, these investments underscore the government's focus on transport connectivity as a driver of regional development and economic integration.
